Windsor Farms Garden Club
Welcome to The Windsor Farms Garden Club. Whether you are interested in creating floral designs, learning about the plants growing in your own gardens, or volunteering for projects serving the Richmond community, we aim to create a beautiful environment. Our motto is “The faith of gardeners is as real as the perfume of a flower”. Our club flower is the Magnolia and our club colors are green and white.
The Club was organized in October 1953 and is celebrating its 70th Anniversary in 2023. Pictured on the cover is the Club Flower, “The Magnolia” by local artist Beth Marchant.
The Garden Club has three major purposes:
A monthly gathering of neighbors and friends
Meetings take place September through November and January through April. Each meeting consists of refreshments, a general business meeting and a program. Additionally, Garden Club members bring horticultural and artistic exhibits for judging to most regular meetings. The Club has a holiday party in December and there is a luncheon in May that includes awards and the installation of new officers.
Outreach to the Richmond area
The Garden Club has supported The Virginia Home since 1954 as a community project. The Virginia Home is a private, nonprofit 130-bed facility providing nursing, therapeutic, and residential care to adult Virginians with irreversible physical disabilities. This worthwhile endeavor manifests itself in three ways: (a) maintaining the Gillette-designed garden; (b) decorating the Home at Christmas time along with giving gifts to each resident; and (c) providing nosegays for the female residents in May.
Service in our neighborhood of Windsor Farms
Our primary responsibilities are helping to maintain Lych Gate (on Windsor Way) and Arthur’s Seat (next to Virginia House). Arthur’s Seat was established as the Garden Club Memorial Garden in 1995. The Club also organizes or assists with such neighborhood functions as the Easter Egg Hunt.
